Alberta used to have the best public education system in the world. No one would claim that now.

Our growing communities need more schools. But the UCP is only good at announcing, not building the classrooms student need.

Instead of working with teachers, the UCP stripped away the charter rights of teachers and used the notwithstanding clause against them. This didn’t solve a single issue in our schools. Teachers deserve support, not attacks from their own government, after the largest strike in Canadian history.

Health care

Let's talk about the UCP's Health Care Guarantee. Danielle Smith promised in October 2022 to fix health care in 90 days. 1400 days later, patients know that didn't work. The Minister has even admitted that "too many Albertans face delays, uncertainty and unnecessary stress when cancer is suspected."

Instead of fixing what isn't working in our public health care system, the UCP destroyed what it could to bring in American-style, two-tier for-profit health care.

People can't find family doctors. Wait times in the emergency room are too long. And surgeries - when they're scheduled in the public system - are painfully long waits. All of it is designed to make people frustrated with the system and push more and more patients into a for-profit system that won't bring down wait times for anyone without the ability to pay. And instead of fixing AHS, they blew it up into more than 15 organizations, each with its own logo and CEO. This is the opposite of streamlining the system.

It gets worse, though. Danielle Smith promised no one would have to ever pay to see a family doctor. With her new expiring health cards, patients have been cut off and sent home with notes that they'll be billed if they don't get their paperwork in line.

Affordability

Nearly everyone is facing the high cost of living in our province. Alberta has the highest inflation west of the Maritimes. This means everything costs more. Our costs are out of control, including auto insurance, utilities and grocery prices.

On auto insurance, the UCP's failed schemes have let insurance rates skyrocket. It's common to see car insurance the second highest household expense. Utilities keep going up, along with property taxes. This year alone, Calgary property taxes are up $340 a year on average. And everyone has seen grocery prices go up faster than inflation.

So what did Danielle Smith do about it? She refused to cut the fuel tax and offered a small rebate that two thirds of eligible Albertans weren't able to access.

Canada

The separation debate itself is hurting our economy, chilling investor confidence, driving away jobs and creating chaos and division in our province.

So why is Danielle Smith holding an expensive referendum that could cost more than $130 million dollars?

Is it because her party is controlled by separatists?

Let's be clear.

It's time for a government that unabashedly supports Canada and shows pride in our country, rather than works to tear us apart.
